AI Draw is a set of AI-powered annotation tools built into the Canvas — CIM Build’s full drawing annotation environment. Instead of manually tracing every wall, door, or window polygon by hand, you activate AI Draw and let the AI detect shapes directly from the drawing image. Once shapes are detected, you can refine them with the Redraw and Smart Polygon tools, then tag them with the correct element type using AI Assign. The Canvas also includes manual drawing tools — Polygon, Rectangle, and Polyline — so you can combine AI-assisted detection with precise manual adjustments.

Opening the Canvas

Open any drawing in your project, then click Canvas in the header bar. The Canvas loads the drawing in a full annotation view with a floating toolbar at the bottom of the screen.

Using AI Draw

Open the AI Draw tool

In the floating bottom toolbar, click AI Draw. The AI analyses the visible area of the drawing and automatically detects and traces shapes such as walls, doors, windows, and ceiling regions.

Review the detected shapes

Detected shapes appear as overlays on the drawing. Use the Select tool to click any shape and inspect it. If a shape looks correct, leave it in place. If it needs adjustment, proceed to the next steps.

Refine a shape with Redraw

Select a shape, then click Redraw in the editing toolbar that appears. The AI re-analyses the selected region and produces a refined trace of the shape boundary.

Adjust points with Smart Polygon

For fine-grained control, select a shape and click Smart Polygon. This activates an interactive point-based editor — drag individual vertices to adjust the shape boundary precisely.

Tag shapes with AI Assign

Select one or more shapes, then click Assign in the action toolbar. AI Assign suggests an element type — wall, door, window, ceiling, or other — based on the shape’s visual context. Confirm the suggestion or choose a different type from the list. Assigned shapes feed into the project’s schedules and summaries.
Calibrate your drawing before using AI Draw. Open the calibration dialog from the Canvas toolbar and set the drawing scale against a known dimension. Calibrated drawings produce accurate area and length measurements when shapes are detected and assigned.

Canvas tools reference

The Canvas toolbar gives you access to the full suite of annotation tools alongside the AI features. Navigation:
  • Grab — pan around the drawing.
  • Select — click to select shapes and objects.
Drawing tools:
  • Polygon — draw freeform polygons to outline areas manually.
  • Rectangle — draw rectangular regions manually.
  • Polyline — draw lines and paths manually.
  • AI Draw — let the AI detect and trace shapes automatically.
Action tools:
  • Assign — tag selected shapes with an element type.
  • Cut — split a shape along a drawn line.
  • Merge — combine overlapping shapes into one.
Editing tools (appear when a shape is selected):
  • Edit Shape — drag vertices to adjust shape geometry manually.
  • Redraw — AI-powered refinement of the selected shape boundary.
  • Smart Polygon — interactive point-based shape adjustment.
Switch between the Canvas and Schedules tabs in the header to move between annotation mode and a tabular view of all assigned elements on the drawing.
